Kitchener Public Library is a community space full of stories, and soon it will be a place where you can bring your story to life. We’re creating an innovative media studio at Central Library – Studio Central – a public space where you’re free to experiment, explore, record, edit, and share your story with the world. Bring your band and record a demo or video. Record and edit your podcast. Film a promo for your non-profit or small business. Learn how to code and create your own video game. Preserve and digitize family photos and videos. If you can imagine it, you’ll be able to do it at Studio Central. Plans for Studio Central include: • Audio recording studios • Video recording studio with green screen • Broadcast/podcast booth • Technology for game development and STEM-based activities • Virtual reality space • 3D printing and digital conversion stations • Outcome-based programming for all digital media The community has embraced the expanded and renovated Central Library since it opened two years ago. We’ve been living in the space, watching how it is used, and listening. Through extensive community engagement including online and in-person surveys, we know that a recording studio and editing space is high on the priority list. That’s why we’re building on the success of our current Digital Media Lab. Today’s libraries are not just places for consuming content, but also for creating it. Studio Central is an important part of Kitchener Public Library’s upcoming strategic plan and our commitment to ensuring digital literacy is a possibility for everyone. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be working to raise funds for Studio Central. Please join us for a special fundraising event to learn more about our Studio Central and have some fun!
